Setup answer

How Many Decks Do You Need for Six Card Golf?

One standard 52-card deck is enough for a normal two-to-four-player Six Card Golf game. Larger groups can combine two decks to keep the stock from running short.

Deck size by player count

Two players receive 12 grid cards total, three players receive 18, and four players receive 24. That leaves enough cards in a 52-card deck for the stock and discard pile during a normal hole.

  • 2 players: one deck
  • 3 players: one deck
  • 4 players: one deck
  • 5 or more players: two decks recommended

What happens when the stock runs out?

Keep the top discard card in place, shuffle the remaining discard pile, and turn it face down to form a new stock. Continue the hole normally.

Using a second deck for a large group reduces interruptions and also makes matching ranks more common.

Do you need Jokers?

No. The Shuffle Pals classic rules use a standard 52-card deck without Jokers. If your family includes Jokers as a house rule, agree on their value before dealing.
