How to play Go Fish
- Deal seven cards to each player and place the rest face down as the pond.
- Ask Finn for a rank that already appears in your hand.
- If Finn has that rank, he gives you every matching card and you ask again.
- If he does not, draw from the pond. Drawing the requested rank earns another turn.
- Remove each completed four-card book. The player with the most books at the end wins.
Go Fish strategy tips
Remember the ranks Finn requests; each request reveals at least one rank in his hand.
Pairs and three-of-a-kind are close to becoming books, so ask for those ranks when possible.
As the pond empties, memory matters more. Use earlier requests to predict where the remaining cards are.
Common questions
Can I ask for any rank in Go Fish?
No. You may ask only for a rank that is already in your hand.
What is a book?
A book is a complete set of four cards with the same rank, such as all four 7s.
What happens when Finn says Go Fish?
Draw one card from the pond. If it matches the rank you requested, you take another turn; otherwise play passes.
